Being born in 1965, in the foothills of the Himalayas, in North Bengal, Sarkar spent his entire childhood amidst the mountains and the moors, the stones and the streams. Sunil initially began working in pencil and paper and worked on subjects that he found in his everyday surroundings. He moved to Kolkata back in 1985 and pursued his training in Fine Arts at the Indian College of Art. After graduating, Sunil has been practicing visual arts encompassing an array of media. Sunil Sarkar has showcased his works in solo and group exhibitions organized in different galleries in various cities across the country including in Academy of Fine Arts (Kolkata), Birla Academy (Kolkata), Chitra Kala Parishad (Bangalore), Mahua Art Gallery (Bangalore) among countless others.
