Indrapramit Roy’s diverse career spans over three and a half decades. Primarily a visual artist, he has been showcasing his work regularly since 1990 in over 20 solo exhibitions, including Pundole gallery (Mumbai), Aicon (Palo Alto and New York), Galerie-88 and Emami Art (Kolkata), Archer Gallery (Ahmedabad), Sakshi Gallery (Bangalore), CCA, Anant Art, and Threshold Gallery (New Delhi). Internationally, he has participated in curated group shows in London, Berlin, New York, San Francisco and Melbourne. Notable representations include the Asian Art Exhibition (Macao), Cairo Biennial (Cairo) and India @70 (Bangkok). In 2013, he created a 12 x 26 ft mural for Mumbai’s T-2 International airport terminal.
Roy is deeply invested in art pedagogy and has contributed in various capacities. Most notably, he has been teaching since 1995 at his alma mater, the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU of Baroda, where he mentored many young artists.
Apart from being a painter and an art educator, Indrapramit has also contributed as an illustrator, designer and writer. He has designed a stage for several productions of Bohurupee theatre group (Kolkata) and also the World Social Forum (Mumbai). His articles on art and culture have appeared in publications like Times Higher Education Supplement (London), Take on Art, Art India Magazine, Arthart and DepArt (Dhaka) Journals. His illustrations were published by the J. Paul Getty Museum (LA) and Tara Publications (Chennai), among others.
Indrapramit Roy pursued his studies at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda. He later attended the Royal College of Art, London, on an Inlaks scholarship. His honours include the Erasmus exchange award for residencies at Cité des Arts, Paris, and HdK, Berlin, as well as a Fulbright fellowship. He was Artist-in-Residence at The Siena Art Institute, Italy. Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust honoured him in 2024.
