Somnath Hore

Somnath Hore (1921–2006) was an Indian printmaker, painter, and sculptor known for his politically charged and emotionally intense artworks. Influenced by the Bengal Famine of 1943 and the Tebhaga movement, his works often portrayed human suffering, struggle, and resilience. He was renowned for his powerful printmaking techniques, particularly woodcuts and etchings, as well as his later bronze sculptures featuring deeply scarred surfaces. Some of his notable works include the "Wounds" series and "Mother and Child." Hore's art is significant in modern Indian art history for its raw expressionistic style and socially relevant commentary.
