Aditya Basak was born in Kolkata in 1953. He graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, in 1977. In recognition of his contributions to visual art, he was awarded a senior fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development in 2000. His accolades include a state government award in 1988 and the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award for painting in 1986. He has been a member of the Society of Contemporary Artists since 1984. The artist has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout India and has participated in many group shows both nationally and internationally, including exhibitions in New York, Toronto, Singapore, London, and Bangladesh. He has also showcased his work in video art shows at various prestigious events, such as the International Short Film Festival at Max Mueller Bhavan, the Short Film Festival by CSFF at Nandan, and the Indo-American Film Screening at the Freer Art Gallery in Washington.
