Arup Das is a figurative painter and renowned muralist whose work prominently features human figures. He aims to depict individuals as social and historical beings, situated within their cultural and natural environments. Das is skilled in both oil and watercolour painting, but he truly excels when combining different media. His use of a wide range of shades enhances the portrayal of human figures in his art.
Born in West Bengal in 1924, Arup Das graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Calcutta. He has held 22 solo exhibitions in several countries, including Japan, the UK, and Canada, and has participated in 24 group exhibitions both in India and internationally. In 1957, he received the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi and the President's Silver Plaque. Currently, he resides and works in Delhi. His artworks are part of the collections at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the Sahitya Kala Parishad in New Delhi, and the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society in New Delhi.
